New Implant Dentures, and I Don’t Enjoy Eating Anymore
Posted by AllSmiles
Last September, I received implant dentures that were so uncomfortable. The denture teeth are too big, they don’t align, and my bite is off. I don’t look forward to eating anymore because chewing and swallowing food is difficult. I’ve had to stop accepting dinner invitations with friends because it’s so embarrassing and gross to choke on food at the table. The implant center said my teeth are fine, but I know they don’t want to accept blame. I am hurt and angry because I don’t know what to do. Thanks for your advice. Jylian from KY
Jylian,
We’re sorry to hear about your disappointing and uncomfortable experience. If your teeth feel too large after implant treatment, don’t line up correctly, or make chewing and swallowing difficult, you’re right to be concerned. Implant restorations should feel natural and comfortable. When they don’t, patients often worry about what went wrong—or that fixing it will only make things worse.
Why a Second Opinion Can Help

Seeking a second opinion can give you clarity and reassurance. A dentist with post-graduate training in implant dentistry can evaluate both the surgical placement and the restorative design to identify the cause of discomfort.
That evaluation often focuses on a few key areas. Understanding these can help you feel more confident moving forward.
- Whether the implant position supports proper tooth size, shape, and alignment
- Whether the bite was designed to function comfortably during chewing and swallowing
- Whether the restorative work can be adjusted or needs to be redone
In some cases, the second-opinion dentist may also be willing to communicate directly with your original implant provider. That conversation can help you pursue a fair resolution or compensation for correcting the work, without being confrontational.
